Budrigannews.com – According to the Albuquerque Police Department, a Republican state House candidate in New Mexico who was unsuccessful was arrested on Monday and accused of orchestrating the recent shootings at the homes of four local elected officials.
On Monday, the police said they had arrested Solomon Pena, 39, and that he was accused of paying four other men to shoot at the homes of two Democrats serving as county commissioners and two as state legislators. The police claimed to have gunshot wounds from Pena.
In November, Pena was defeated in his bid for the state House by an incumbent Democrat who received more than 73% of the votes.
On November 15, he shared a picture of himself on Twitter wearing a sweatshirt that read “Make America Great Again,” a flag that read “Trump 2024,” and the message that he, like former President Donald Trump, was not giving up his election.
During a press conference, the police said that Pena had denied losing the election and had gone to the commissioners and lawmakers’ homes and claimed there was election fraud. The shooting suspects were in custody, according to the police, and additional individuals would face charges.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, a county commissioner’s residence was struck by eight bullets on December 4, and another commissioner’s residence was struck by more than twelve bullets on December 11. The newspaper reported that the bedroom of a state representative’s 10-year-old daughter had been struck by three bullets on January 3.
At a press conference, Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller stated that Albuquerque Police “essentially discovered what we had all feared and what we had suspected — that these shootings were indeed politically motivated.” This was about a right-wing radical, an election denier who was arrested today, and someone who turned a political disagreement into violence, which is the worst thing you can do.”
The Journal reported, citing state records, that Pena had previously been convicted of 19 felonies, including burglary and theft, and served nearly seven years in prison.
