U. S. approved law to block Tik Tok

Budrigannews.com – On Wednesday, the House Foreign Affairs Committee voted in favor of giving President Joe Biden the authority to prohibit the Chinese-owned social media app TikTok and other apps.
By a vote of 24 to 16, lawmakers approved the measure that gives the administration new authority to ban the ByteDance app, which is used by over 100 million Americans, and other apps that are thought to pose security risks. The bill, which was sponsored by Republican committee chair Michael McCaul, was opposed by Democrats on the committee.
Before the measure can be sent to Biden, it still needs to be approved by both the full House and the full Senate.
After the vote, McCaul told Reuters that he believes the TikTok bill will be discussed on the floor “fairly soon” and put to a vote by the whole House this month.
The legislation would “damage our allegiances across the globe, bring more companies into China’s sphere, destroy jobs here in the United States and undercut core American values of free speech and free enterprise,” according to the top Democrat on the committee, Representative Gregory Meeks.
