U. S. and allies declare harsh punishment of Russia for war on Ukurain

Budrigannews.com – Following a meeting in New Delhi on Friday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his counterparts from India, Japan, and Australia issued a statement stating that Russia cannot be allowed to wage war without consequence.
Additionally, the so-called Quad group stated that the use of nuclear weapons or the threat of using them in Ukraine was “inadmissible.”
A significant nuclear arms control treaty was put on hold late last month when Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened to resume nuclear tests.
Blinken addressed a forum in India, stating, “If we allow Russia to do what it is doing in Ukraine with impunity, then that’s a message to would-be aggressors everywhere that they may be able to get away with it too.”
On the sidelines of a G20 meeting in New Delhi, where ministers had traded blame for the conflict, Blinken met with Quad group counterparts.
Blinken had met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov for the first time in New Delhi a day earlier, just over a year after the conflict in Ukraine began. According to a senior U.S. official, Blinken urged Moscow to reinstate its suspension of the New START nuclear treaty and end the war during the brief encounter.
According to Russian news agencies, Lavrov and Blinken spoke for less than ten minutes and did not engage in any negotiations, as stated by the Russian foreign ministry.
At the G20, the US and its partners approached part nations to continue to compel Russia to end the contention, however the G20 couldn’t concur a joint assertion on the conflict because of resistance from Russia, which considers its activities a “exceptional military activity”, and China.
Josep Borrell, the head of the European Union’s Foreign Policy, called for cooperation among nations on Friday. “They must understand that we are facing something that breaks the possibility of having a world consensus,” he said. “Everyone who is abstaining in several different regions must understand this.”
The Quad ministers also took a barely disguised swipe at China in their statement by condemning actions that raise tensions in the South China Sea and the “militarization” of disputed territories there.
China has criticized the Quad as a clique “targeting other countries” and a product of the Cold War. The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue refers to the group’s focus on Indo-Pacific strategic issues.
