Russia launches new gas pipeline to China
Budrigannews.com – On Wednesday, a significant new Siberian gas field was opened under the direction of Russian President Vladimir Putin in order to facilitate a planned increase in China’s gas supply.
The Power of Siberia pipeline will bring Russian gas to China via the Kovykta gas field. With recoverable stores of 1.8 trillion cubic meters, it is the biggest in eastern Russia.
As the European Union reduces its reliance on Russian energy in response to the war in Ukraine, the launch is part of Russia’s strategy to shift gas exports to the east.
It was hailed by Putin as a “significant event” for Russia’s energy sector and economy as a whole. He joined a video link with the workers at the site, who were shown lined up on the snow in blue safety gear and white helmets, and he ordered them to “Start work!” to kick off the project.
The Power of Siberia pipeline, which supplied approximately 10 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas in 2021 and is expected to reach its full capacity of 38 bcm in 2025, began selling gas to China at the end of 2019. China’s number one is now Russia. 3 gas provider
Putin came to an agreement in February to sell an additional 10 billion cubic meters of gas to China from Russia’s Far East via a new, smaller pipeline that goes to China’s northeast.
In addition, Russia intends to construct the Power of Siberia 2, a significant pipeline that will traverse Mongolia in order to sell an additional 50 billion cubic meters of gas annually.
Putin stated last week that the projects would enable Russia to increase its gas sales to China to 88 bcm by 2030 and 48 bcm by 2025, respectively.
