JPMorgan Chase & Co. is a multinational American financial services company with its headquarters in New York City and Delaware incorporation. As of 2023, it will be the largest bank in the world and the largest bank in the United States. The Financial Stability Board considers the company to be of systemic importance because it is the largest of the Big Four banks.
Enhanced regulatory oversight, the upkeep of an internal “Fortress Balance Sheet,” and liquidity reserves have been a result of its size and scale. The company will move into the JPMorgan Chase Building, which is still under construction, in 2025. Its headquarters are located at 383 Madison Avenue, which is in Midtown Manhattan.
The Chase Manhattan Company was established in 1799, marking the beginning of the company’s history. J. P. Morgan launched the House of Morgan on 23 Wall Street as a national provider of commercial, investment, and private banking services in 1871, which led to the establishment of J.P. Morgan & Co. When the two previous businesses merged in 2000, a diversified holding entity was created, which led to the formation of the current company.
Through corporate advisory, mergers and acquisitions, sales and trading, and public offerings, it is a major provider of investment banking services in the Bulge Bracket. In terms of total assets, their private banking franchise and asset management division are among the largest in the world. In the United States and the United Kingdom, the Chase brand houses its retail banking and credit card offerings.
JPMorgan Chase is the fifth-largest bank in the world, with assets totaling US$3.774 trillion. By revenue, the company runs the largest investment bank in the world. On the Fortune 500 list of the largest U.S. corporations by revenue, it ranks 24th. Across all of its business divisions, it conducts institutional research on economics, geopolitics, personal finance, and financial markets.
A substantial market share in the banking sector as well as a high level of brand loyalty have been achieved thanks to the balance sheet, geographic footprint, and thought leadership of the company. On the other hand, it is frequently criticized for its risk management, extensive financing activities, and substantial legal settlements.
