India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.73%
Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Capital Goods, Power and Metals sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.73% to hit a new 3-months high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.80%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which rose 3.33% or 6.95 points to trade at 215.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) added 3.30% or 40.80 points to end at 1,276.70 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) was up 2.95% or 444.80 points to 15,530.65 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL), which fell 3.20% or 10.75 points to trade at 325.65 at the close. State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) declined 2.01% or 10.65 points to end at 520.40 and Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) was down 1.54% or 56.70 points to 3,631.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 3.13% to 1,274.85, Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was up 2.95% to settle at 15,534.20 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which gained 2.41% to close at 1,460.95.
The worst performers were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.95% to 520.30 in late trade, UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which lost 1.63% to settle at 6,669.85 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which was down 1.18% to 19,691.85 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1013 to 839 and 46 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1838 rose and 1529 declined, while 171 ended unchanged.
Shares in Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) rose to 3-years highs; up 3.33% or 6.95 to 215.40. Shares in Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) rose to all time highs; rising 3.30% or 40.80 to 1,276.70. Shares in Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) rose to all time highs; up 3.13% or 38.65 to 1,274.85.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.05% to 19.30 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.22% or 3.95 to $1,795.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.97% or 0.86 to hit $88.15 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.95% or 0.90 to trade at $94.02 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.35% to 79.64, while EUR/INR rose 0.45% to 81.16.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 106.29.
