Hyundai Motor rolls out NFT membership for IONIQ 6 EV
South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor has launched an NFT membership program for its new electric vehicle (EV) IONIQ 6. The “IONIQ Citizenship” NFT membership promises exclusive access to “digital spaces, special digital content, and physical items” tied to IONIQ 6.
According to a Monday press release from the company, owners of the IONIQ 6 NFT will have access to unique services and experiences through the program. This includes exclusive VIP access to Planet Hyundai, the company’s metaverse platform on Zepeto, as well as opportunities to redeem gift cards for customs phone cases from NFTYC (NFT Your Case), the world’s first NFT phone case manufacturer.
The IONIQ Citizenship NFT collection comes in six different themes – Entertainment, Fun Driving, Healing, Socializing, Stress-Free Driving, and Work. To encourage people to jump on its Web3 initiative, the automobile maker airdropped 5,000 generative NFTs for free last Thursday as opposed to selling the collection. Thomas Schemera, Executive VP, Global CMO, and Head of Customer Experience Division, Hyundai Motor, said:
We will continue to provide phygital [physical and digital] experiences that merge the real world and the digital world for the new generation of customers who are more accustomed to digital technology.
Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 was the bestselling electric vehicle in South Korea from January to May of this year. Over in the US, its retail EV sales grew by 179% year over year, the company claims.
IONIQ 6 NFT is the second NFT collection from the company. In May, Hyundai Motors released its Shooting Stars NFT.
As part of its metaverse experience, Hyundai Motor also plans to gradually offer an interactive virtual space called IONIQ Digital Garage for holder-exclusive events.
