Budrigannews.com – After a power outage over the weekend that shut down a treatment plant serving the fourth largest city in the United States, Houston lifted a boil-water warning for residents on Tuesday after determining that there was no risk.
However, for a second day, over 190,000 students’ schools remained closed.After a water treatment plant temporarily lost power and a backup unit failed to take over, the Houston Independent School District canceled classes on Monday and instructed employees to work from home.
The city stated that “Houston Water has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water,” and that tests confirmed that tap water met regulatory standards.
According to Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, the plant’s transformers tripped, and it took staff two hours to get the two units back into service. The outage caused a brief drop in pressure, which resulted in the boil water alert.
