Fortnite Privacy Breach Cost 520 Million
Budrigannews.com – The Federal Trade Commission and Epic Games announced on Monday that they would pay $520 million to settle allegations that they had deceived customers into making purchases and violated a children’s privacy law.
It has agreed to implement strong default privacy settings for young people and will pay $275 million for breaking the privacy law.
According to the FTC, it will also pay $245 million to refund customers who were tricked into making purchases they didn’t intend to make by so-called “dark patterns.”
In a statement, FTC Chair Lina Khan said, “Epic used default settings that invaded privacy and deceptive interfaces that tricked Fortnite users, including teenagers and children.”
