Budrigannews.com – Three days after a heavily armed gunman entered two buildings at Michigan State University and opened fire, killing three other students, five wounded students remain in critical condition, according to police.
After the rampage on Monday night, the gunman, who was identified as Anthony Dwayne McRae of Lansing, Michigan, took his own life by shooting himself. The university in East Lansing, about 90 miles (145 kilometers) northwest of Detroit, had no known connection to McRae.
Authorities claim that McRae opened fire upon entering Berkey Hall, an academic building on the northern campus of the school. He then made his way to a different building, where he opened fire before the police arrived.
At 11:35 p.m., approximately three hours after the initial shooting report, police discovered the suspect’s body nearly four miles (6.5 km) from the campus.
Two 20-year-olds and a 19-year-old student were killed. Chris Rozman, interim deputy police chief at Michigan State, stated during a news briefing that the five hospitalized students were improving but were still in critical condition as of Thursday morning.
He stated that the wounded’s names will not be released by authorities out of respect for their families.
Marlon Lynch, the university’s police chief, stated that fellow students who assisted during the mass shooting saved their lives.
Two 9mm handguns belonged to McRae when his body was discovered. Rozman stated that he also carried two loaded magazines and eight loaded magazines in a backpack. He mentioned that the guns had been legally purchased but had not been registered.
