Budrigannews.com – In advance of an anticipated announcement that he will be running for a second four-year term, U.S. President Joe Biden, 80, entered a physical examination that was closely watched on Thursday morning.
Biden’s second thorough examination since taking office in January 2021 took place at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, a suburb of Washington. Biden went to the hospital for what was expected to be a three-hour examination.
The examination’s results would likely be made public by the White House at some point on Thursday.
According to his doctors at the time, his most recent physical and colonoscopy in November 2021 revealed that the president was a “healthy, vigorous, 78-year-old male.” According to their six-page memo, he had a colon polyp removed and his contact lens prescription changed.
Biden, the oldest president of the United States, has shrugged off questions about his age. Polls show that voters are concerned about Biden’s capacity to serve four more years if he wins in 2024, with his campaign for re-election expected to begin soon.
According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted between the 6th and 13th of February, approximately three-quarters of Americans, which includes more than half of Democrats and the vast majority of Republicans, believe that Biden is too old to work in government. The majority of Democratic respondents stated that the president is still mentally sharp, but roughly half of them stated that he is unable to handle the physical demands of his position.
According to 2020 data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Biden would be 86 years old at the conclusion of a potential second term. This puts him 13 years older than the typical American male’s life expectancy.
Kevin O’Connor, Biden’s White House physician, declared him fit for duty and capable of carrying out his duties during his most recent examination. O’Connor attributed Biden’s stiff gait to “peripheral neuropathy,” or a loss of foot sensation, and spinal arthritis.
According to Borna Bonakdarpour, an associate professor of neurology at Northwestern (NASDAQ:), Biden’s doctors will probably conduct a neurological exam on Thursday, as is typical for people in his age group who are more likely to fall. told Reuters by the university’s Feinberg School of Medicine.
According to Bonakdarpour, they will likely also examine Biden’s eyes, hearing, and “anything else he may complain about.” The doctor stated that Biden’s cognition appeared to be good during the most recent State of the Union address. During a PBS interview last week, Biden said that Americans who were worried about his age should “watch me” do his job as president.
Last month, Jill Biden, 71, had cancerous skin lesions taken out.
