American Abrams tanks will go to Ukraine

Budrigannews.com – On Sunday, lawmakers in the United States called on the government to send M1 Abrams main battle tanks to Ukraine, claiming that even sending a symbolic number to Kyiv would be enough to convince European allies to follow suit.
According to ABC’s “This Week,” the newly appointed Republican chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Michael McCaul, “just one” Abrams tank would be sufficient to motivate allies, particularly Germany, to unlock their own tank inventories for the purpose of fighting Russia.
He stated, “Even saying we’re going to put Abrams tanks in would be sufficient.”
In the face of a full-scale Russian invasion, Ukrainian officials have been requesting modern tanks from Western allies for months.
Britain recently announced that it would provide Ukraine with 14 Challenger 2 tanks; however, Germany’s Leopard 2 heavy tanks, which Ukraine’s allies are able to provide, are the real prize. Berlin has been under increasing pressure for several weeks to either send some of its Leopards to Ukraine or, at the very least, approve their transfer from other nations.
However, it appears that Germany has connected any such contribution to a move by the United States to send its own Abrams tanks, something American officials have said they are reluctant to do due to the vehicles’ complicated upkeep. ABC was informed by Democratic Senator Chris Coons that it was past time to disregard those concerns.
He stated, “I would support that if it requires our sending some Abrams tanks to unlock getting the Leopard tanks from Germany, Poland, and other allies.”
“We need to continue working with our close allies and move forward in lock step,” “I respect that our military leaders think the Abrams is too sophisticated and too expensive a platform to be as useful as the Leopards,”
