YouTube will not remove fake content about election
By Tiffany Smith
Budrigannews.com – (NASDAQ) Alphabet-YouTube, owned by Inc., said on Friday that it would stop removing content that might have spread false claims about the 2020 and earlier U.S. presidential elections.
YouTube’s election misinformation policy includes the new set of updates, which will take effect immediately.
In a blog post, YouTube stated, “In the current environment, we find that while removing this content does curb some misinformation, it may also have the unintended effect of restricting political speech.”
The platform also stated that all user content, including elections, would continue to be subject to its policies against hate speech, harassment, and incitement to violence.
Questions about how social media platforms enforce their policies against election-related misleading content have been raised as a result of the proliferation of disinformation.
Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:) and other social media platforms Facebook has also seen an increase in election-related misinformation.
