Budrigannews.com – After busloads of migrants from the southwest border of Texas were dropped off near the home of Vice President Kamala Harris in Washington, D.C., on a cold Christmas Eve, the White House said that Texas Governor Greg Abbott was putting lives in danger.

The Republican Abbott, a vocal opponent of the immigration policies implemented by the Biden administration, has not acknowledged the Christmas Eve drop, nor has his office claimed responsibility. A Democrat, Joe Biden is the president.

Immigrant aid groups reported on Sunday that Texas officials placed between 110 and 130 migrants seeking asylum in the United States, many of whom were families with children, on buses after the migrants arrived in Washington, D.C.

In a statement, White House spokesman Abdullah Hasan stated, “Governor Abbott abandoned children on the side of the road in below freezing temperatures on Christmas Eve without coordinating with any Federal or local authorities.”

Hasan continued, “The political games have no effect and only put lives in danger.”

During a national debate about the high numbers of immigrants arriving at the southern border of the United States, Texas has bused thousands of migrants to Washington, New York City, and Chicago. Some critics have called this a stunt.

Abbott has stated in the past that his state was purposefully transporting migrants by bus to sanctuary cities, where authorities are prohibited from deporting immigrants.

Hasan stated that the Biden administration would collaborate with Republicans and Democrats to find solutions to the migrant problem.

According to Amy Fischer, an organizer with the Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid Network, the migrants in Washington were immediately put on city-provided buses and taken to a church where they received warm food and clothing.

A co-organizer for the same group, Claudia Tristán, told Reuters on Monday that nearly all of the migrants who were dropped off near the vice president’s house were already on their way to friends and family in the United States.

On December 20, Abbott wrote a letter to Biden in which he stated that the state was overburdened by the daily influx of thousands of men, women, and children who risk freezing to death on city streets.

Judge Richard Cortez of Hidalgo County, Texas, told CNN on Monday that his area of Texas was overwhelmed by the number of immigrants and could not accommodate them all.

Cortez, whose county borders Mexico, stated, “Bobbling immigrants out of this area in a way helps us… but it’s not a solution to the problem.”
