Budrigannews.com – Nas, a rapper from the United States, wants the world to be aware of hip-hop’s history, relevance, and influence as the genre gets ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2023.
The native New Yorker is leading a number of events leading up to the anniversary through his company, Mass Appeal. Clive Campbell, also known as DJ Kool Herc, started the music genre when he played at a New York City block party on August 11, 1973.
Tributes will include 10 EP soundtracks produced by Swizz Beatz, The-Dream, Hit-Boy, and others, as well as three documentary films produced in conjunction with TV network Showtime.
Nas stated, “Hip-Hop was never just music,” adding that it has always included deejaying, dancing, fashion, and other forms of art.
He stated that it has served as a “voice for the voiceless.”
“The people feel like they can be a part of it now that more of the voiceless have a platform.”
Peter Bittenbender, the chief executive officer of Mass Appeal, stated that the company wanted to create something that would make people realize the global impact of hip-hop culture.

In the latter part of the 1970s, the Bronx borough in New York City’s south became the birthplace of hip-hop. The elements of dancing, rapping, and deejaying originated in an inner-city setting but have since grown to become a multi-billion dollar component of mainstream global culture.
Nas was upbeat when asked where he sees hip-hop going in the next 50 years.
He stated, “I hope that it’s still thriving and staying innovative.” Hip-hop also brings people together and makes them aware of the problems in our societies through its lyrics.
