Where the uncle of head WHO was killed
Budrigannews.com – On Wednesday, the head of the World Health Organization stated that his uncle was “murdered” in the Tigray region of Ethiopia by Eritrean troops.
When inquired about the allegations, Eritrean Information Minister Yemane Gebremeskel did not respond.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General and former minister from Tigray and Ethiopia, has criticized Ethopia’s involvement in the conflict that has displaced millions and killed tens of thousands.
Tedros said in the final minutes of a COVID-19-focused Geneva press briefing that he nearly canceled the event because he was “not in good shape” after hearing about his uncle’s “murder.”
Tedros told reporters, “I hope that this (peace agreement) will hold and this madness will stop, but it’s a very difficult moment for me,” adding that more than 50 others had been killed in the same incident. In a significant breakthrough, the Ethiopian government and Tigray-based regional forces agreed to end hostilities in November.
However, the ceasefire did not include troops from Eritrea to the north or Amhara to the south, neighboring Ethiopian regions that fought alongside Ethiopian forces in Tigray.

Witnesses and aid workers in the northern region informed Reuters that Eritrean forces have been looting, arresting, and killing civilians in the towns they still control throughout the region despite the truce.
Ethiopia’s administration representative Legesse Tulu, military representative Colonel Getnet Adane, and Head of the state Abiy Ahmed’s representative Billene Seyoum didn’t quickly answer a solicitation for input on Tedros’ comments.
On the sidelines of the event, Tedros was asked about the details of the incident. He said that his younger uncle, who he had grown up with, had been killed by Eritrean soldiers in a Tigray village. He said he was afraid of retaliation from the village, so he didn’t say where it was.
He claimed, without providing any additional details, that that followed the murder of his cousin in Tigray last year when a church was set on fire.
Tedros has denied allegations that he attempted to obtain arms and diplomatic support for rebel forces. The Ethopian government opposed Tedros’ second term as head of the global health agency.
