Walmart starts cooperation with Salesforce

According to the companies, retailers and other businesses that host and manage their websites using Salesforce’s e-commerce platforms will be able to use Walmart’s GoLocal and Store Assist services to offer online customers faster order pickups and same-day or next-day deliveries.

Since the pandemic caused many people to shop online, retailers have started offering such delivery services to their clients.

The deal’s terms were not made public.

GoLocal, Walmart’s delivery-as-a-service business, was launched in August 2021. It provides businesses with last-mile shipping services at a lower cost than building their own network, which can require a lot of capital.

Similar to Instacart and DoorDash, drivers on Walmart’s Spark Driver platform, the company’s local delivery service that employs independent contractors, pick up orders from nearby stores or facilities and deliver them to customers’ homes the same day.

During a conference call with the media, Walmart GoLocal vice president Harsit Patel stated that GoLocal has completed more than 3 million deliveries since its launch.

According to the companies, the partnership with Salesforce will also give customers who use the “Commerce Cloud” and “Order Management” platforms of the company access to “Store Assist,” a Walmart app that helps customers manage and track orders and speeds up the process of handing over packages to customers or delivery drivers.

The onboarding of additional retail customers enables the world’s largest retailer to operate its fleet more effectively while simultaneously adding additional revenue streams. Higher order volumes, more pickup locations, and a higher density of routes mean lower costs per order for more customers.

The businesses declined to comment on the anticipated number of customers this arrangement would bring in. Also, they didn’t say if retailers would have to pay for each delivery or order.

Starting in the spring, the services will be available through Salesforce’s AppExchange, its business app store.
