Volcanic eruption in Hawaii is canceled-USGS
Budrigannews.com – The U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS) Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reported that lava and volcanic gas emissions at Hawaii’s Mauna Loa, the largest active volcano in the world, decreased on Saturday.
Since lava was restricted to a small area, the Observatory downgraded the volcano’s alert level to a watch from the previous level of warning.
A watch alert level indicates that a minor eruption is taking place.
Ending its longest period of silence in recorded history, Mauna Loa began to erupt for the first time since 1984 toward the end of November.
According to the Observatory, the lava flow front in the Humu’ula Saddle region has stalled 1.9 miles (3.06 kilometers) from the Daniel K. Inouye Highway, which is also known as Saddle Road, and no longer poses a threat.
The volcano’s behavior suggests that the eruption may soon end. However, the Observatory stated that the decreased activity is accompanied by an inflationary trend of Mauna Loa’s summit.
It stated, “The eruption could continue at very low eruptive rates” in small amounts.
