Venezuela and Colombia discuss cooperation
Budrigannews.com – According to the Colombian government, during a meeting that took place on Saturday in Caracas, the presidents of Colombia and Venezuela, Gustavo Petro and Nicolas Maduro, discussed bilateral investment and trade.
Since Petro assumed office in August 2022, the nations have rekindled their political ties, reopening trade and promising to collaborate on agricultural and border management issues.
According to a statement released by Petro’s office, the second meeting between the presidents focused on the management of a newly reopened border, efforts to increase trade, and peace talks Bogota is holding with the National Liberation Army (ELN).
“Our meeting was extensive and extremely productive. Maduro stated on Twitter that “we have a clear joint work plan that will continue to give positive results for our countries.”
In relation to Monomeros, a fertilizer producer based in Colombia that is owned by Pequiven, a subsidiary of the Venezuelan state chemical company, the two men have previously stated that they could enhance their cooperation. The Colombian finance minister has stated that his nation may be interested in purchasing Monomeros.
Venezuela hosted the first round of negotiations between Colombia and the ELN, which ended in December, and is a guarantor nation for those talks.
After activists from the Venezuelan opposition tried to send aid trucks from Colombia, Caracas cut ties with Bogota in 2019. It was claimed by Maduro’s government to be a cover for an attempted coup.
Bogota’s previous governments have accused Maduro of harboring criminals and rebel groups from Colombia, which he has denied.
