Vancouver Airport closed due to bad weather
Budrigannews.com – The country’s second busiest airport, Vancouver, had to halt all flights on Tuesday morning due to heavy snowfall and poor visibility as a result of a powerful winter storm that was covering Pacific Canada. The disruptions are expected to continue ahead of the Christmas holiday.
According to the Vancouver International Airport, the storm has had “unprecedented effects on flights” and caused widespread overnight cancellations.
According to a statement released by the airport, “Travel continues to be significantly impacted this morning” and “we anticipate cancellations and delays to continue throughout the day and the week ahead.”
A meteorologist with Environment Canada stated that overnight, a low pressure system from the Pacific Ocean and very cold Arctic air over British Columbia brought temperatures down and up to 25 cm of snow to parts of the western province.
According to the Vancouver airport, workers were removing snow and ice from the aircraft and the airfield in order to get people and planes moving again.
Nearly 200 flights scheduled to arrive or depart on Tuesday had been canceled, according to data from the airline tracking website Flightaware, and another 67 had been delayed.
Ross MacDonald, a meteorologist for Environment Canada, stated that the Vancouver region was experiencing a “significant winter storm” that is anticipated to bring additional snow in the morning before the weather clears by noon.
“We’re still in a mess at the present time,” MacDonald said early Tuesday morning.

For the majority of British Columbia, Environment Canada issued warnings for extreme cold, snowfall, and arctic outflow. They urged people to dress warmly and be on the lookout for unsafe driving conditions over the next few days.
A significant portion of the United States, stretching from the Northwest and Great Plains to the Appalachians and southeast, was also anticipated to be affected by the storm.
The National Weather Service warned that it will likely cause flight delays and impassable roads during one of the busiest travel times of the year.
