US weather forecasts, tornado, storm, hail
Budrigannews.com – The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts that large hail and powerful tornadoes could strike a significant portion of the southern United States on Tuesday afternoon and evening.
The National Weather Service issued a warning on Monday that the severe storms would likely cause significant wind damage to portions of Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
According to the NWS, the storms could result in powerful “long-track” tornadoes—tornadoes that stay on the ground for much longer than normal.
According to Andrew Orrison, a NWS meteorologist based in College Park, Maryland, the severe storms are being sparked by the collision of a cold front that is barreling down from the Rocky Mountains and pushing across the central plains with warmer, moist air that is pushing north from the Gulf of Mexico.
He said that tornadoes could form in the southeast from the lower and middle Mississippi valleys with speeds of up to 111 miles per hour.He went on to say that the region might even be hit by the strongest twisters, which could have winds of over 200 miles per hour.
