WASHINGTON (Reuters) – United Airlines said on Thursday it will temporarily cut some flights at three airports in the New York and Washington, D.C., areas after the Federal Aviation Administration gave carriers permission to cancel some flights this summer because of an air traffic controller shortage.

United said it would reduce some flight frequencies at New Jersey’s Newark International Airport, New York’s LaGuardia Airport and Washington’s Reagan National Airport this summer, but in many cases will use larger aircraft to minimize disruption to passengers.
