Unemployment in Spain at the lowest in 15 years
Budrigannews.com – According to data released on Tuesday by the Labour Ministry, the number of people registering as jobless in Spain decreased slightly in December compared to the previous month, ending 2022 at a 15-year low.
The number of unemployed people decreased by 43,727, or 1.52 percent, leaving 2.84 million without work.
Since 2007, when 2.2 million people were out of work, this is the lowest rate.
In a tweet, Labour Minister Yolanda Diaz stated, “This data shows that labor protection measures are working.”
A separate report from the Social Security Ministry revealed that Spain saw a net loss of 8,347 formal jobs in December, bringing the total number of jobs available to 20.31 million, down from a record high in November.
In December, the number of young people without a job fell by 12,185 people, or 5.86 percent, reaching a record low of 195,751 people.
According to Diaz, “the youngest workers have benefited the most from the approval of the labor reform, signing 1.9 million more contracts than in 2019.”
