Budrigannews.com – A spokesperson for the United Nations said that on Friday, a three-truck convoy delivered aid to approximately 800 people near Soledar in the eastern Donetsk region of Ukraine. This was the first such delivery made by the international organization as it seeks to increase front-line aid in the war.
According to Jens Laerke of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the supplies of food, water, hygiene supplies, and medicines were being offloaded on Friday morning in areas under the control of the Ukrainian government.
Although he stated that the vehicles left from Dnipro, he did not specify a precise location in a region that has witnessed intense fighting between Ukrainian and Russian forces.
Laerke continued, “People there are in dire need of aid, so we are indeed pleased this convoy has reached (them).”
He stated that the parties to the conflict were informed in advance, but he did not provide any specifics regarding how OCHA was able to ensure the convoy’s safety.
He stated that OCHA was attempting to increase the number of aid convoys near the front lines and that additional convoys were anticipated in the coming days.
