Budrigannews.com – In a speech to parliament on Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that his country is a “global leader.” He also told lawmakers to stay united in the face of Russia’s invasion and thanked Ukrainians for helping the West “find itself again.”
In an annual speech that was held behind closed doors because of the war in Russia, Zelenskiy said that the military resistance that Ukraine had mounted against the Kremlin had rekindled a belief in values all over the world.
“We accomplished something that almost no one believed possible because of our unity. “Absolutely no one — except us,” he stated to lawmakers, his cabinet, other senior officials, and the military’s highest ranks.
In the 45-minute speech, he stated, “Our national colors are today an international symbol of courage and indomitability of the whole world.”
While lawmakers occasionally applauded, the 44-year-old spoke from the pulpit of the parliament, known as the Verhovna Rada, with his distinctive rasping voice. He was wearing a casual black sweatshirt.
The war, which is now in its 11th month, dominated the speech at the end of the year. However, he also used it to outline ideas for rebuilding a strong and prosperous state, such as decentralizing the energy system and making it more environmentally friendly.
Zelenskiy also stated that Ukraine would spawn a powerful domestic defense industry that “will be one of the most powerful in Europe and the world,” and he thanked Western partners for providing weapons.
He also said that Ukraine would add more than 30,000 Starlink internet service terminals to its possession. In areas that have been severely affected by Russian air strikes, the SpaceX units have been crucial to maintaining internet access.
Zelenskiy also told the parliament that a series of prisoner swaps with Moscow had resulted in the release of 1,456 Ukrainian prisoners of war since Russia invaded.
It is believed that Russia holds thousands of Ukrainian prisoners of war, but the precise number is unknown.
On February 24, troops from the Kremlin invaded Ukraine, beginning a war that has resulted in the displacement of millions, the destruction of cities, and the deaths of tens of thousands.
Zelenskiy claimed that the Ukrainian war effort contributed to the European Union’s consolidation and unification. Ukraine has applied to join both the European Association and the NATO military coalition.
He stated, “Ukraine became one of the global leaders.”
