Budrigannews.com – On Sunday, Ukraine’s top nuclear energy chief said there were signs that Russian troops were likely preparing to withdraw from the huge Zaporizhia nuclear power plant they seized shortly after the invasion in March.

In the partially captured Southeastern part of Zaporozhye, where the front has practically not moved for several months, this step can be a significant change on the battlefield. Fears of a nuclear catastrophe have intensified due to the constant shelling of factories.

Peter Kotin, CEO of Energoatom, said on national television: “In recent weeks, we have been effectively receiving data that they may be preparing to leave the station.” “First of all, the Russian media report a lot that the station could be lowered and, perhaps, it is worth transferring control over it to the World Atomic Organization – the IAEA,” he said and hinted at the United Nations atomic watchdogs. “They get the feeling that they are putting everything they can in a bag and sneaking around.”

The Zaporozhye reactor, no longer producing energy, has been the subject of repeated criticism from the Russian and Ukrainian authorities for several months. Ukraine became the site of the worst nuclear disaster in the world in 1986, which occurred in the Chernobyl region.

Kotin on television replied when he asked if it was too early to discuss the withdrawal of the Russian military from the plant: “It’s too late. They’re ready to leave, but we haven’t seen it yet. “All Ukrainian employees cannot clearly pass through checkpoints, enter the territory protected by Ukraine.” The head of the IAEA will meet with the Russian delegations of Istanbul on October 23 to discuss the creation of a protection zone on the territory of Europe’s largest plant prevented by a nuclear disaster.

In Ukraine, in the past, almost a fifth of the electricity came from Transcarpathia. The day before the meeting, Deputy Defense Minister Sergei Rabkov announced the need to make a decision on the protective area “quickly enough”, RIA Novosti reports.

This month, the city of Kherson in the southwest and part of the land plots on the right side of the Dnieper of the Kherson region, located in the east of the Zaporozhye region, were returned to Ukraine.

2 days after the Russian rocket was forced to stop for the first time in forty years, the UN Nuclear Activities reported that on Friday three Ukrainian nuclear power plants in the territory controlled by the government of Ukraine were reconnected to the electrical grid.
