Ukraine attacks Saratov region of Russia
Budrigannews.com – A Ukrainian drone that was shot down while it was attacking a base in Russia’s Saratov region fell and killed three Russian military personnel early on Monday, according to Russian news agencies, citing the defense ministry.
The base had been the target of two attacks this month.
According to news reports, the Russian ministry stated, “A Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle was shot down at low altitude while approaching the Engels military airfield in the Saratov region.”
“Three Russian servicemen of the technical staff who were at the airfield were fatally wounded as a result of the fall of the drone’s wreckage.”
The base was struck on December 5 in what Russia claimed were Ukrainian drone attacks on two Russian air bases that day. It was located near the city of Saratov, about 730 kilometers (450 miles) southeast of Moscow, and hundreds of kilometers away from the front lines in Ukraine.
Analysts stated that as attention turned to the use of drones in the war between neighbors, the twin strikes dealt Russia a significant reputational blow and raised questions regarding the reason why its defenses failed.
