Ukraine asks NATO to speed up and increase the supply of weapons

Budrigannews.com – With the city of Dnipro reeling from a Russian missile strike that killed at least 40 people in an apartment block and Ukrainian troops under increased pressure on the eastern front, Ukraine urged the West to accelerate its supply of weapons.

On Tuesday, the General Staff of the Ukrainian army stated that Russia had carried out more than 70 rocket attacks within the previous 24 hours.

The salt-mining town of Soledar, where Russia and Ukraine have been engaged in intense trench warfare for weeks, was said to have been shelled by Russian forces near the city of Bakhmut in the eastern Donetsk region.

The city of Bakhmut has been completely destroyed by unrelenting Russian shelling, and the city of Avdiivka in the center of the Donetsk region has suffered significant damage.

On YouTube, Ukrainian military analyst Oleh Zhdanov stated, “Very heavy fighting is continuing in the two key sectors of… Bakhmut and Avdiivka.”

“The adversary is constantly and continuously attacking. Additionally, we are attempting to hold our positions. Nighttime activity by Russian troops necessitates the use of night vision equipment.

Reports from the battlefield could not be confirmed by Reuters.

In his video address on Monday night, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that Russia’s attempts to take over the war and the attack on Dnipro demonstrated the need for the West “to speed up decision-making” regarding the supply of weapons.

Since Russian forces invaded Ukraine on February 24, Western nations have been producing a steady supply of weapons, but Zelenskiy and his government insist that they need tanks.

On Monday, Britain said that it would send 14 Challenger 2 tanks and other equipment, like hundreds of additional armored vehicles and advanced air defense missiles.

Germany is under pressure to send Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, but its government says that only if all of Kiev’s main allies, especially the United States, agree, then those tanks should be sent.

On Monday night, Ukraine’s Secretary of the Security Council, Oleskiy Danylov, also mentioned that the government expected Russia to “try to make a so-called final push,” which necessitated an acceleration in the supply of weapons.

Danylov indicated to Ukrainian television that this could occur in March or on the anniversary of the invasion.

“We must constantly prepare for such occurrences. Danylov continued, “The first and last question is always about weapons, aid to help us defeat this aggressor who invaded our country. And we are preparing.”

On Friday, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was scheduled to meet with allies at a German air base to talk about expanding aid to Ukraine.

Russia’s actions are referred to as a “special military operation” because of its neighbor’s growing ties to the West. Moscow is accused by Ukraine and its allies of starting an unprovoked war to take territory and wipe out the independence of another ex-Soviet republic, they claim.

Millions of people have been forced to flee their homes as a result of Russia’s invasion, and tens of thousands of civilians have been killed. Additionally, Kyiv and its allies have accused Russia of mass deportations of Ukrainians.

On Monday, Zelenskiy urged the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to do more for Ukrainians he claims have been taken to Russia by force.

The OSCE is the largest regional security organization in the world. It is made up of 57 states and includes the United States, all of Europe, Russia, and all of the countries that were part of the former Soviet Union.

“At this time, no international organization has the strength to gain access to our prisoners’ detention facilities in Russia. “This needs to be fixed,” Zelenskiy stated.

Between 900,000 and 1.6 million Ukrainian citizens, including 260,000 children, were estimated to have been deported into Russian territory by the U.S. State Department last year.

Russia claims that those arriving are war refugees and denies deportations. The emergency ministry of the nation reported in November that since February, approximately 4.8 million Ukrainians, including 712,000 children, had arrived in Russia.
