UK supported and joined Canada sanctions against Russia and Iran
Budrigannews.com – On Friday, Britain announced sanctions against 30 individuals worldwide, including officials from Russia and Iran, focusing on those it believes are responsible for acts of torture, sexual violence, and the violent suppression of street protests.
The move was made the same day that France announced plans to impose new sanctions on Iran by the European Union for violating human rights in its security crackdown on popular unrest there and for providing drones to Russia prior to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
To commemorate both Global Human Rights Day and International Anti-Corruption Day, the British government claimed that its sanctions were coordinated with partners around the world. They included people who were involved in things like torturing prisoners and mobilizing troops to rape civilians.
Foreign Secretary James Cleverly stated in a statement, “Today our sanctions go further to expose those behind the heinous violations of our most fundamental rights.”
