Budrigannews.com – Jake Sullivan, the White House’s national security adviser, announced on Thursday that the United States will provide Ukraine with an additional $2 billion in security assistance.
Sullivan said at a CNN town hall event, where he announced the additional aid, “We’re going to continue to look at what is necessary, and make sure that we provide what is necessary that Ukraine has what it needs to succeed on the battlefield.”
He stated that the nations of the Group of Seven (G7) will announce a new round of sanctions on Friday. These sanctions will target nations that are attempting to resupply Russia with goods that Russia is unable to obtain as a result of sanctions related to the Ukraine.
Sullivan stated, “You will see the continued erosion of the quality and capacity of the Russian economy as time goes on, even as Vladimir Putin races to spend money in an effort to prop it up.”
When asked about Ukraine’s request for American F-16 fighter jets, Sullivan stated, “F-16s are not a question for the short-term fight” from Washington’s perspective. The long-term defense of Ukraine depends on F-16s.
