U. S. threatens UN about inadmissibility of truce in Ukraine

Budrigannews.com – According to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, a “just and durable” peace cannot permit Russia to rest and rearm, so the United Nations Security Council should not be deceived by calls for a temporary or unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine.
The council met to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2013, during a meeting of the 15 members in New York due to Western concerns that Moscow was planning such a move.
Hours after China called for a comprehensive ceasefire as part of a 12-point plan to end the war, Blinken issued a warning to the council. China’s warning was largely a reiteration of its strategy since Russia launched what it calls a “special military operation.”
Blinken stated, “Any peace that legitimizes Russia’s forceful seizure of land will weaken the United Nations Charter and send a message to would-be aggressors everywhere that they can invade countries and get away with it.”
On Thursday, the 193-member United Nations General Assembly called for a “comprehensive, just, and lasting peace” in accordance with the founding U.N. Charter and reiterated its call for Moscow to withdraw its troops and cease fighting.
According to Blinken, “no member of this council should call for peace while supporting Russia’s war on Ukraine and on the U.N. Charter,” China has been accused of considering supplying arms to Russia and Beijing has been warned against this.
Since Russia invaded, Western nations have given Ukraine billions of dollars worth of weapons. On Thursday, China told the United Nations General Assembly that “sending weapons will not bring peace” to Ukraine.
Dmytro Kuleba, the foreign minister of Ukraine, told the Security Council that any new peace proposals should be in line with the General Assembly’s demands.
“We have always taken an objective and impartial stance based on the merits of the issue,” China’s Deputy U.N. Ambassador Dai Bing told the Security Council on Friday. “We are ready to continue to play a responsible and constructive role in easing the situation and resolving the crisis.”
Russia claims that the West is waging a “proxy war” against it by arming Ukraine and imposing sanctions on Moscow, and that it is also attempting to “denazify” Ukraine and safeguard Russian speakers in the east of the country.
The West claims that it is an unprovoked land grab and that the war will end if Russia ceases fighting and withdraws, but Ukraine will cease fighting if it ceases fighting.
Vassily Nebenzia, Russia’s U.N. Ambassador, stated to the Security Council, “It sounds pretty, but it’s absolutely false.” Where, when, and from whom did you learn that our military operation’s objective is to eliminate Ukraine? We have never stated such an objective.”
In the past year, the Security Council has met dozens of times about Ukraine, but it hasn’t been able to do anything meaningful because Russia has the power to veto.
