U.S. stocks mixed at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.28%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher while losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NYSE, the lost 0.28%, while the index climbed 0.40%, and the index climbed 1.02%.

The best performers of the session on the were NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:), which rose 4.89% or 6.86 points to trade at 147.01 at the close. Meanwhile, Walmart Inc (NYSE:) added 3.00% or 2.52 points to end at 86.60 and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:) was up 1.44% or 2.91 points to 204.61 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:), which fell 2.15% or 12.65 points to trade at 577.00 at the close. 3M Company (NYSE:) declined 1.51% or 1.97 points to end at 128.20 and Nike Inc (NYSE:) was down 1.31% or 0.98 points to 73.91.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 31.34% to 28.29, Vistra Energy Corp (NYSE:) which was up 5.61% to settle at 154.85 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:) which gained 4.89% to close at 147.01.

The worst performers were Incyte Corporation (NASDAQ:) which was down 8.33% to 70.56 in late trade, Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 5.62% to settle at 37.29 and Intuit Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 5.10% to 644.17 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Painreform Ltd (NASDAQ:) which rose 161.68% to 1.40, noco noco Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 67.01% to settle at 0.16 and Next Technology Holding Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 61.76% to close at 2.75.

The worst performers were Silence Therapeutics PLC (NASDAQ:) which was down 36.75% to 6.97 in late trade, Akari Therapeutics PLC (NASDAQ:) which lost 31.44% to settle at 1.57 and QMMM Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:) which was down 26.59% to 1.27 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1424 to 1388 and 81 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1783 rose and 1484 declined, while 159 ended unchanged.

Shares in Vistra Energy Corp (NYSE:) rose to all time highs; up 5.61% or 8.23 to 154.85. Shares in Walmart Inc (NYSE:) rose to all time highs; rising 3.00% or 2.52 to 86.60. Shares in Silence Therapeutics PLC (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; losing 36.75% or 4.05 to 6.97. Shares in QMMM Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 26.59% or 0.46 to 1.27.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.82% or 21.40 to $2,636.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.20% or 0.14 to hit $69.31 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.04% or 0.03 to trade at $73.33 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 1.06, while USD/JPY rose 0.02% to 154.68.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 106.11.
