U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 1.19%
Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Technology and Basic Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.19%, while the S&P 500 index gained 1.53%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 2.11%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 3.63% or 5.69 points to trade at 162.59 at the close. Meanwhile, Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) added 3.46% or 6.34 points to end at 189.49 and 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) was up 3.21% or 3.83 points to 123.10 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH), which fell 0.29% or 1.52 points to trade at 524.34 at the close. The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) declined 0.22% or 0.36 points to end at 164.15 and McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) was down 0.22% or 0.56 points to 259.52.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH) which rose 8.60% to 19.33, Kroger Company (NYSE:KR) which was up 7.40% to settle at 51.94 and Take-Two Interactive Software Inc (NASDAQ:TTWO) which gained 5.97% to close at 127.78.
The worst performers were Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which was down 3.69% to 305.70 in late trade, NortonLifeLock Inc (NASDAQ:NLOK) which lost 2.82% to settle at 22.73 and Humana Inc (NYSE:HUM) which was down 1.62% to 478.50 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were GeoVax Labs Inc (NASDAQ:GOVX) which rose 50.46% to 1.64, Aditx Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ADTX) which was up 37.00% to settle at 0.19 and American Virtual Cloud Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:AVCT) which gained 31.09% to close at 0.22.
The worst performers were Immunocore Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:IMCR) which was down 22.09% to 44.75 in late trade, Troika Media Group Inc (NASDAQ:TRKA) which lost 16.42% to settle at 0.40 and Cleantech Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:CLAQ) which was down 13.48% to 6.10 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2640 to 486 and 114 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2715 rose and 1058 declined, while 193 ended unchanged.
Shares in Cleantech Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:CLAQ) fell to all time lows; down 13.48% or 0.95 to 6.10.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.47% to 22.79.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.40% or 6.85 to $1,727.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 3.27% or 2.73 to hit $86.27 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 3.58% or 3.19 to trade at $92.34 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.51% to 1.00, while USD/JPY fell 1.00% to 142.65.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.68% at 108.97.
