U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.43%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the gained 0.43% to hit a new 3-months high, while the index gained 0.69%, and the index added 0.83%.

The best performers of the session on the were Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:), which rose 3.19% or 7.59 points to trade at 245.49 at the close. Meanwhile, Dow Inc (NYSE:) added 2.59% or 1.34 points to end at 53.14 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:) was up 2.54% or 0.84 points to 33.91 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:), which fell 2.20% or 4.71 points to trade at 208.98 at the close. Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:) declined 1.21% or 2.74 points to end at 223.43 and Boeing Co (NYSE:) was down 0.53% or 1.17 points to 220.39.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Comerica Inc (NYSE:) which rose 6.41% to 43.66, Steel Dynamics Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 5.99% to settle at 107.10 and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:) which gained 5.76% to close at 19.47.

The worst performers were Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 3.64% to 124.49 in late trade, Biogen Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 2.81% to settle at 304.60 and Bio-Techne Corp (NASDAQ:) which was down 2.45% to 76.73 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were IperionX Limited ADR (NASDAQ:) which rose 100.46% to 13.21, Eastside Distilling Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 84.87% to settle at 6.23 and Ideanomics Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 46.35% to close at 0.09.

The worst performers were Auddia Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 48.85% to 0.62 in late trade, Advanced Human Imaging Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:) which lost 37.50% to settle at 1.50 and Jin Medical International Ltd (NASDAQ:) which was down 30.98% to 9.11 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2060 to 908 and 92 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2305 rose and 1271 declined, while 133 ended unchanged.

Shares in Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:) rose to 52-week highs; rising 5.76% or 1.06 to 19.47. Shares in IperionX Limited ADR (NASDAQ:) rose to all time highs; rising 100.46% or 6.62 to 13.21.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.66% to 14.61.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.67% or 13.25 to $1,956.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 3.01% or 2.02 to hit $69.14 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 3.03% or 2.18 to trade at $74.02 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.33% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.42% to 140.19.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 102.86.
