Budrigannews.com – According to the White House, U.S. President Joe Biden will meet with leaders of the G7 and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy virtually on Friday to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and announce new sanctions against those who support Russia’s war effort.
The same group gathered last year just a few hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin launched his invasion of Ukraine and imposed the first set of sanctions.
Karine Jean-Pierre, a spokesperson for the White House, stated to reporters on Thursday, “The G7 has become an anchor of our strong and united response to Russia.” She said that the leaders will talk about “how we continue supporting Ukraine” on Friday and how to put more pressure on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine a year ago.
According to Jean-Pierre, the sanctions will have an effect on both individuals and businesses involved in the conflict and will include Russian banks, the technology sector, and the defense industry.
She added that the United States will also announce a new aid package for Ukraine that will include energy, security, and economic assistance.
