U. S. may postpone tax breaks for EV-Senate
Budrigannews.com – Joe Manchin, chair of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, called on the United States Treasury to hold off on implementing commercial and consumer electric vehicle tax credits on Thursday.
On Thursday, the U.S. Treasury issued guidance that will enable automakers to take advantage of commercial vehicle tax credits for consumer leasing that do not have the same stringent rules regarding the sourcing of batteries as consumer purchase credits that are intended to move U.S. supply chains away from China.
“Bends to the desires of the companies looking for loopholes and is clearly inconsistent with the intent of the law,” Manchin stated of the Treasury guidance. It only weakens our capacity to become a nation that is more energy secure.”
