Holly Vedova, director of the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Competition, stated in a statement, “This is a victory for consumers and the merchants who rely on debit card payments to operate their businesses.”
In a proclamation, Mastercard said it had agreed with the commission on the steering of specific check card transations, adding that it accepts its ongoing practices are “legal” and that it gives choices to vendors.
