U.S. delivers humanitarian aid without violating sanctions
Budrigannews.com – According to a statement made on Tuesday by the U.S. Treasury Department, the country is taking steps to ease the delivery of humanitarian aid without violating any international sanctions, putting into effect recent exemptions approved by the United Nations.
After aid organizations raised concerns about how their work was being adversely affected by excessive compliance with such measures, the United Nations Security Council decided this month to exempt humanitarian assistance from international sanctions.
Although the Security Council has previously dealt with such issues on a case-by-case basis, its blanket exemption on December 9 aims to safeguard aid activities for members of the international organization.
“Across a number of OFAC sanctions programs to ease the delivery of humanitarian aid,” the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control said in an announcement on Tuesday.

In a separate statement, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated, “The United States is committed to protecting humanitarian access and removing impediments – real and perceived – to the delivery of legitimate humanitarian aid around the world.”
