Budrigannews, com – A State Department spokesperson stated on Wednesday that efforts by private individuals to broker the release of Americans held in Russia could make it more difficult for Washington to bring American detainees home.

The remarks were made by spokesperson Ned Price in response to questions from journalists regarding Bill Richardson’s trip to Russia this week. Richardson is a former governor of New Mexico who has worked to get American detainees released abroad.

Price stated, “We want to ensure that any external effort is fully and transparently coordinated with us.” In this instance, we believe that efforts outside of that officially designated channel have the potential to complicate a challenge that is already extremely complex.”
