U. S. and its allies agreed to receive submarine
By Tiffany Smith
Budrigannews.com – In a statement released on Friday to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the AUKUS security pact, the leaders of the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia stated that they had made “significant progress” toward acquiring a nuclear-powered submarine for Australia.
According to the statement, “We are steadfast in our commitment to Australia acquiring this capability at the earliest possible date.”
The Western allies see AUKUS as an effort to counter China’s growing power and influence, particularly its military buildup, Taiwan’s pressure, and deployments in the disputed South China Sea.
A plan to provide Australia with the technology and capability to deploy conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines is at the heart of the AUKUS agreement.
In addition, the AUKUS leaders—Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, UK Prime Minister Liz Truss, and U.S. President Joe Biden—stated that they had made “significant strides” in other areas, such as the capabilities for cyber and electronic warfare, hypersonic weapons, and additional undersea capabilities.
