U.K. stocks lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.43%

Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in London, the lost 0.43%.

The best performers of the session on the were Shell PLC (LON:), which rose 1.56% or 39.50 points to trade at 2,566.50 at the close. Meanwhile, BP PLC (LON:) added 1.19% or 4.80 points to end at 407.95 and Pershing Square Holdings Ltd (LON:) was up 1.15% or 46.00 points to 4,034.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Diageo PLC (LON:), which fell 3.89% or 99.00 points to trade at 2,448.50 at the close. Persimmon PLC (LON:) declined 3.76% or 44.50 points to end at 1,139.50 and Barratt Redrow PLC (LON:) was down 3.24% or 14.10 points to 420.50.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 939 to 816 and 658 ended unchanged.

Shares in Persimmon PLC (LON:) fell to 52-week lows; falling 3.76% or 44.50 to 1,139.50.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.51% or 13.59 to $2,655.41 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.23% or 0.90 to hit $74.03 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.76% or 0.58 to trade at $76.51 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.39% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.83.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.41% at 108.76.
