Twitter targets firing women
Budrigannews.com – (NYSE) Twitter Inc. has been hit with a second lawsuit as a result of the company’s recent layoffs, this one claiming that the social media company discriminated against female employees.
According to a proposed class action that was filed late on Wednesday in San Francisco federal court, Twitter laid off 57% of its female employees in comparison to 47% of its male employees following its acquisition by Elon Musk, the richest person in the world.
Musk cut costs by laying off roughly 3,700 employees at Twitter at the beginning of November, and hundreds more left after that.
According to the new lawsuit, the gender gap was even more pronounced in engineering positions, where 63% of women and 48% of men lost their jobs.

Two women who were fired from Twitter last month have filed a lawsuit claiming that the company broke California and federal laws that prohibit sex discrimination in the workplace.
When asked for comment, Twitter did not immediately respond.
Plaintiffs’ attorney Shannon Liss-Riordan stated that after Musk acquired the company, women “had targets on their backs,” regardless of their talent or contributions.
Liss-Riordan represents both current and former employees of Twitter in three additional lawsuits that have been filed in the same court since last month.
Among the claims in those cases are that Musk evicted disabled workers by refusing to allow remote work and calling on employees to be more “hardcore,” as well as that Twitter failed to pay promised severance and laid off employees and contractors without providing the advance notice required by law.
The United States National Labor Relations Board has received complaints against Twitter from at least three distinct employees alleging that they were subjected to retaliation for advocating for improved working conditions.
In the lawsuit involving advance notice, Twitter has denied any wrongdoing, but it has not responded to the other complaints.
