Turkey blames construction contractors for damage after earthquake

Budrigannews.com – In the wake of the devastating earthquake, Turkey’s interior minister announced that the country would expand its investigation into building contractors who are suspected of violating safety standards.

According to Suleyman Soylu, 564 suspects have been identified, 160 of whom have been formally arrested, and many more are still the subject of an investigation.

“Our children will live in stronger cities because our cities will be built in the right places. He stated to the state broadcaster TRT Haber, “We know what kind of test we are facing, and we will come out of this stronger.”

Within a year, President Tayyip Erdogan has promised to rebuild housing.

Erdogan, who has been in power for two decades, is up for election in four months. Opinion polls showed that he was under pressure from a cost of living crisis even before the earthquake, which could get worse because the disaster disrupted agricultural production.

According to Soylu, 313,000 tents and 100,000 container homes would be built in the earthquake zone.

Soylu stated overnight that the number of people killed in Turkey by the devastating earthquakes this month has increased to 43,556.

According to Soylu, the initial quake on Feb. 6 was followed by 7,930 aftershocks, causing at least moderate damage to over 600,000 apartments and 150,000 commercial buildings.

Urbanization Pastor Murat Kurum said 164,000 structures with in excess of 530,000 lofts were annihilated or seriously harmed by the quake.

Kurum went on to say that the government has already begun the process of awarding contracts for the construction of brand-new apartments in the affected area.

To shield workers and businesses from the financial impact of the massive earthquake that struck the south of the country, Turkey launched a temporary wage support program on Wednesday and banned layoffs in ten cities.

On February 6, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake left millions homeless and damaged or destroyed hundreds of thousands of structures.

Erdogan stated on Tuesday that outside the earthquake zone, approximately 865,000 people are living in tents, 23,500 in container homes, and 376,000 in student dorms and public guesthouses.
