Budrigannews.com – On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump disclosed to Fox News Digital that his campaign was discussing a possible return to Facebook (NASDAQ:) with Meta Platforms. and Instagram, two years after his ban was imposed by the company for encouraging violence.
According to the report, Trump stated, “We are talking to them, and we’ll see how it all works out.”
He stated, “If they took us back, it would greatly help them, and that’s okay with me.” However, they require us more than we require them.
Reuters did not get a response from Meta.
In November, Trump launched his 2024 presidential campaign.
This month, Meta, the largest social media company in the world, will make a controversial decision regarding the future of Trump’s accounts.
Steven Cheung, a spokesman for the Trump campaign, stated to Fox News Digital on Wednesday that Trump’s return to Facebook “will be an important tool for the 2024 campaign to reach voters.” Despite the fact that Trump has avoided Twitter ever since the company decided to reinstate his account in November, stating that he preferred his own Truth Social platform.
After Meta removed two of Trump’s posts during the U.S. Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, including a video containing false claims of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election, Meta revoked Trump’s access to Facebook and Instagram.
Later in 2021, the company’s independent oversight board ruled that the suspension was warranted, but it criticized the indeterminate nature of it. Meta responded by promising to examine the suspension two years after it started.
Meta VP of Global Affairs Nick Clegg wrote at the time, “If we determine that there is still a serious risk to public safety, we will extend the restriction for a set period of time and continue to re-evaluate until that risk has receded.”
