A vehicle fire back in May, involving a Tesla (NASDAQ:) Model Y, made international headlines after the driver was forced to kick out the window to escape. Many were quick to suspect the high voltage battery to be the cause. However, an ongoing investigation by Transport Canada has ruled out the high voltage battery in the Model Y as a possible cause.
The exact cause has not been determined, but the investigation has thus far confirmed the fire started in the left half of the dashboard “in the vicinity of the left body control module,” Transport Canada explained.
The confirmation matches a statement the owner, Jamil Jutha, gave saying that he first noticed smoke coming out of the driver’s side vent.
Transport Canada has confirmed that their investigation has now moved to this area of the car, adding that “several components of interest from under the instrument panel have been removed for in-depth examination.”
Transport Canada did not give a timeline for when the investigation would be finished and are unaware of any other similar incidents at this time.
Shares of TSLA are down 3.86% in mid-day trading Thursday.
