There are big problems at the Apple factory in China
Budrigannews.com – At a COVID-infected Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:) plant in the industrial Chinese city of Zhengzhou, individuals claiming to be Foxconn employees erected barriers and argued with hazmat-clad authorities.supplier, scenes that were shown on Wednesday and were broadcast live on the Kuaishou short video platform.
In the videos, more than 100 people were gathered outside and came face to face with dozens of officials wearing hazmat suits, whom they claimed to be police. Some videos showed workers expressing dissatisfaction with the food they were given, while others said they had not received their promised bonuses.
With approximately 200,000 employees, the Zhengzhou plant is the largest iPhone factory in the world.
As a result of growing dissatisfaction with the manner in which COVID cases were handled and with the treatment of employees, including what they claimed were inadequate food provisions, many workers have fled since late October. Their escapes have been documented on social media.
The manufacturer started a campaign to get workers to stay and hire more people, promising higher wages and bonuses per hour in an effort to get production back on track.
Due to the COVID situation in Zhengzhou, it has maintained so-called closed-loop operations at the plant—a system in which employees live and work on site, isolated from the outside world.
Apple Inc. predicted lower shipments of premium iPhone 14 models earlier this month because of the curbs and discontent that have affected production.
