Texas Regulator Warns Pipeline Operators of Severe Weather

Budrigannews.com – In light of forecasts for severe weather over the next few days, the Texas oil regulator advised operators of oil and gas pipelines to secure their facilities and equipment on Sunday.
After the National Weather Service predicted wintry precipitation and ice accumulations in several parts of the state, the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC), which oversees the state’s oil and gas industries, issued the notice.
The operators were instructed by the oil regulator to secure all personnel, equipment, and facilities to avoid harm or damage, as well as to monitor and prepare for potential impacts.
Additionally, it instructed the operators to keep an eye on weather reports and to “heed” any and all orders, watches, and warnings issued by local emergency personnel.
“The freezing rain could cause significant icing. Total ice accumulations of one-tenth to one-quarter of an inch, especially on bridges and elevated surfaces. In a forecast for portions of the north central, northeast, and south central parts of Texas, the National Weather Service stated, “Some sleet will be possible.”
Additionally, a notice was issued for a potential freezing precipitation event for the Panhandle, north, west, and central regions of the region from Monday to Thursday by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which manages the majority of the state’s power grid.
During a deadly winter storm in February 2021, millions of Texans were without power, water, or heat for days due to the shutdown of numerous electric generation and gas pipelines.
