Tesla will open network of charging points for competitors’ cars-White House

Budrigannews.com – On Wednesday morning, President Biden’s administration made the announcement that Tesla (NASDAQ:) as part of a $7.5 billion federal program to electrify the nation’s highways, would be opening a portion of its U.S. charging network to rival electric vehicles (EVs). a move that runs the risk of eroding a competitive advantage for the electric vehicle manufacturer and could propel the company toward becoming the ubiquitous EV fueling station.
By the end of next year, non-Tesla customers will be able to use 3,500 new and existing superchargers along highway corridors, as well as 4,000 slower chargers in hotels and restaurants. A White House official stated that Tesla would be eligible for a subsidy, which would also include retrofitting its existing fleet, as long as its chargers would allow other vehicles with the CCS charging standard, which is supported by the federal government, to charge.
“One of the early people out there in this space,” Tesla said. At a press briefing prior to the announcement, White House Infrastructure Coordinator Mitch Landrieu stated, “It was critically important to us, that everybody be included in the conversation,” describing Musk as constructive and “very open.”
Zaidi stated that Musk stated that “his intent was to work with us to make his network inter-operable” during a conversation with senior government officials last year.
An ambitious federal program to construct 500,000 electric vehicle (EV) chargers by 2030, up from 130,000 at the moment, would benefit greatly from opening up access to Tesla’s network.
On Wednesday, TSLA shares are up 2.03% in premarket trading.
