T-Mobile may be involved in cyber attacks
By Ray Johnson
Budrigannews.com – T-Mobile shares (NASDAQ:) are continuing to fall in the pre-market session on Friday following the company’s announcement late last night of a cybersecurity incident.
“A bad actor was obtaining data through a single Application Programming Interface (“API”) without authorization,” the wireless network operator claimed, and it was “able to trace the source of the malicious activity and stop it.”
Although the attack did reveal “name, billing address, email, phone number, date of birth, T-Mobile account number and information such as the number of lines on the account and plan features,” the company claims that the “most sensitive types of customer information” were not accessed.
“Malicious activity appears to be fully contained at this time,” according to T-Mobile, but the company notes that “approximately 37 million current postpaid and prepaid customer accounts” may have been compromised.
Although no additional information was provided at this time, the business stated that it “may incur significant expenses in connection with this incident.”
In response to the incident, TMUS shares are down around 2%.
