Suspect in shooting at opposition has been arrested in New Mexico

Budrigannews.com – On Monday, New Mexico police announced that they had made an arrest in connection with the shootings that took place at the homes and offices of six elected Democratic officials, raising concerns about political violence.
Albuquerque police Chief Harold Medina stated at a press conference, “There is a suspect in custody, on unrelated charges, related to these incidents.” We do possess one of the firearms that were used in one of the incidents.
Medina declined to discuss the motive or the unrelated charges.
The most recent incident occurred last week when multiple shots were fired at the southwest Albuquerque residence of state senator Linda Lopez and the downtown law office of state senator Moe Maestas. The string of attacks began at the beginning of December.
According to Democrat Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller, “that there is a suspect in custody is very important for our city, for our elected officials, and frankly for our local democracy.”
The shootings in Albuquerque, the largest city in New Mexico, have not resulted in any injuries. Over the past two years, gun violence has led to a record number of homicides in Albuquerque. The attacks come in response to an increase in threats and intimidation directed at politicians, government officials, and sometimes their families in the United States. Since the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, members of Congress from both major parties have experienced an increase in harassment.
Medina said of the incidents, “We’re trying to link, and see, what cases are related and what cases are not related.” He also said that his force had a lot of search warrants for the case.
On Monday, police said that a sixth legislator, the incoming Speaker of the New Mexico House, Javier Martinez, had said that shots had been fired at his house in the beginning of December.
Medina declared, “We have identified potential connections between some of the shootings.”
